about

Anchor is a song about feeling grounded despite everything being really chaotic during the last few years. I wrote it soon after giving birth to my beautiful daughter and it started as a simple love-escapism song.
When I started collaborating with CJShawmusic on the lyrics for our album, it morphed into something a shade darker, more complex lyrically.

Anchor became a duet🖇️ during the Lyrebirds’ song-arranging weekend down the coast at Callala Bay, NSW when Sam McNair jokingly sung the chorus, and the rest of us absolutely loved the addition of his voice 🤠. After some excellent pre-production processes with long-time collaborator and engine of the project Louis Montgomery, we recorded it at Golden Retriever Recording Studio earlier this year and this track came together really easily, with Sophie Chapman on bass, Hannah Beasley on wurly, Grahame Spike Thompson on drums, JD McNair on guitars, banjo and vocals, and your truly on guitar, vocals, mandolin and Hammond organ. After some delicious pedal steel guitar was added by Matt Dixon, the track was mixed by Louis and mastered by another long-time collaborator Andrew Edgson at Studios 301
I am feeling very blessed to have worked on this record with SUCH an incredible team, it has truly been a dream 😊.

On the release side of things, we are very lucky to be teaming up with Marshall and Paul at Foghorn Media and Foghorn Records and Buttercup Records Australia and have distribution by Metropolitan Groove Merchants.

lyrics

I got an anchor
Lord knows I got a harbour
I got a port where I can shelter from the storm

I got a parachute
Opens at the thought of you
My head of steam will need your brick and mortar

Chorus
Will you take me to that place where we went together
We’ll make like thieves and go hell for leather
Nobody needing to know how or why I go
You know I never asked you for any advice
You know I’m happy with the price
The heat’s in the moment
Then I disown it

Verse 2
And I remember, last time together
The spotlight never gave us away
Good at keeping secrets so nobody reaches
Leaving us in peace to play

Chorus

Bridge
I wanna feel the sunrise
Breathe the colour of the dawn
Wrap around me and keep me warm
I wanna feel the sunrise
Breathe the colour of the dawn
Wrap around me and keep me warm
That’s the moment that I’ll be gone

Verse 3
Everything’s in order
Still the perfect daughter
Meeting expectations one by one
Cos I got an anchor
Lord knows I got that harbour
And its the port the keeps me anchored in the storm
