Bec Taylor and the Lyrebirds is the alt folk-pop project of Canberra multi-instrumentalist Bec Taylor. After performing in a number of projects over the past decade, including punk-outfit Glitoris and alt-pop quartet Fun Machine, Bec took to writing a juicy new record and is ready to share it with new live band The Lyrebirds. Signed to Buttercup Records before the first single even dropped, her upcoming album is full of alt-folk earworms and restrained pop nuggets.
Bec has toured rigorously over her career, and recorded almost a dozen records while performing on some of the biggest stages around the country with her previous projects, including BIGSOUND, Groovin’ The Moo, and the Woodford Folk Festival, as well as playing alongside the likes of Gotye, The Cat Empire, and main tour support for Regurgitator. Also with her previous bands, Bec has won numerous awards for her performance and songwriting, including a couple of National Live Music Awards and MusicACT Music Industry Awards.
In 2020, Bec took to produce a collection of new material written after feeling a burst of inspiration while away in Nashville. Recorded with Louis Montgomery (Peking Duk, SAFIA), these songs are a jangly, alt-pop expression of Bec’s many years of experience as a songwriter, performer, and music teacher. In 2021, Bec is ready to share her debut single ‘Friend of Mine’, a song that touches on the turbulences and untroubled moments of friendship.
lyrics
You, you're always running from the same things yeah and
me, I'm always barking up the same tree yeah and
we, we’re always figuring it out together
look each other in the eye
You, you're always looking in the wrong places and
me, I'm always cycling the same faces but
we, we hold up a mirror and show each other
overlook our faults and lines
Will you find me when I lose my way
and remind me it's okay to fail
will you love me for the things I am
and forgive me for my faults and lines
friend of mine
friend of mine
You and yourself look at each other differently and
me and myself talk to each other differently
We know our differences and celebrate them
overlook our faults and lines
Will you find me when I lose my way
and remind me it's okay to fail
will you love me for the things I am
and forgive me for my faults and lines
Will you find me when I lose my way
and remind me it's okay to fail
will you love me for the things I am
and forgive me for my faults and lines
